British parents shocked over unisex school loos

Wednesday October 17, 2012 06:49:05 PM, IANS

London: Many parents in Britain have turned a worried lot after learning that their children -- boys and girls -- will be sharing a common loo at a new 7-million pound (over $11 million) super-school.

Council chiefs reckon the unisex toilets at Dreghorn Primary in Irvine, Ayrshire county, will make kids feel safer and encourage them to behave better, The Sun reported.

They insist pupils' privacy won't be affected because the cubicles are closed off from floor to ceiling.

However, the furious parents hit out and claim they weren't properly consulted.

A backlash erupted on Facebook just days before the school is due to open to pupils.

One of the Facebook users, John Bell posted: "It's shocking. Classic case of madness!" while another user And Alexis Smith branded the idea "idiotic".
