CBSE Class X Bonus Marks

New Delhi: The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Thursday said it will compensate the Class 10 students because of the typing errors in English paper and every student will be given 02 bonus marks.

“The typing error has been noticed and it has been Board’s policy to not let students face any disadvantage. The marking scheme has been decided in the interest of students and all those who appeared for the particular question will be awarded two marks,” a senior CBSE official has been quoted as saying by news agency PTI.

The CBSE Class X English paper was held on March 12, 2018. Several teachers and students had approached the CBSE with a plea that the paper held had certain errors in the comprehension passage section. Students had to read a passage and write synonyms for the words endurance, obstruction, and motivation. But the paragraphs they were supposed to look at were incorrectly marked, they had said in an online petition.

“In Section A (Reading), in the paragraph about success, there was a question on synonyms, the mentioned paragraph were incorrect, by which students didn't find out the correct words. So, I request CBSE board to give bonus marks on that erroneous question”, Rahul Senapati, who started the online petition said. The petition was signed by more than 15,000 students.

CBSE board exams this year were marred by controversies with reports of paper leak even inviting protests from various parts of the country. The CBSE then announced to re-conduct some of the Class X paper. The decision led angry protests from all around leaving the CBSE with no option but to cancel the re-exam.

Later on the CBSE had to cancel and reschedule a board exam paper in Punjab following the Bharat Bandh call given by Dalit organizing who were angry over a Supreme Court verdict which according to them diluted the SC/ST Act.
