New Delhi: The man behind the morphed photo of Former President of India Pranab Mukherjee at RSS headquarters in Nagpur not only admitted his involvement in circulating the fake image but also said that he did it for entertainment.
According to India Today, the man who was identified as Mihir Jha, confessed to his involvement in morphing Pranab Mukherjee's image calling it a "pure entertainment".
Soon after Pranab Mukherjee's images donning black RSS cap and saluting the organisation's flag went viral, India Today and other fact-checking websites launched a probe and found the image to be morphed. A further research took them to Mihir Jha who had first requested one of his friends on Twitter to see if the former president’s image could be doctored to make him look like he was wearing an RSS cap.
Pranab Mukherjee who visited the RSS headquarters in Nagpur on Thursday stood in an attention position during recitation of Sangha Prarthana as the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) members around him, including its chief Mohan Bhagwat, stood with one hand folded horizontally at the chest level.
Mihir Jha in his Twitter bio section writes, “Proud to be followed by PM @narendramodi”.
Interestingly, Pranab's daughter Sharmistha Mukherjee had earlier warned that his visuals with the RSS cadre will be misused for planting false stories.
“Hope @CitiznMukherjee now realises from todays’ incident, how BJP dirty tricks department operates. Even RSS wouldn’t believe that you are going to endorse its views in your speech. But the speech will be forgotten, visuals will remain and those will be circulated with fake statements", Sharmistha Mukherjee said in a message posted on Twitter.
"By going to Nagpur, you are giving BJP/RSS full handle to plant false stories, spread false rumours as today and making it somewhat believable. And this is just the beginning!” she added.
Pranab Mukherjee uses the Twitter handle @CitiznMukherjee ever since he retired as President.
Sharmistha Mukherjee is Delhi Mahila Congress President. Her tweet came after rumours were spread today claiming that she was joining the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP).
“In the mountains enjoying a beautiful sunset, and suddenly this news that I’m supposedly joining BJP hits like a torpedo! Can’t there be some peace and sanity in this world? I joined politics because I believe in Congress. Would rather leave politics than leave Congress,” said Sharmistha in another tweet.
