New Delhi: Two gunmen late in the night Sunday fired shots just outside Jamia Millia Islamia leading to widespread panic and protest in the entire area.
Eyewitnesses said the incident of firing was reported near Gate Number 5 of Jamia Millia Islamia.
"Two men came on a scooty and fired shots in the air and fled the scene. No casualties have been reported so far", they said.
This is the third instance of firing near Jamia Millia Islamia and the nearby Shaheen Bagh - the epicentre of protest against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), National Register of Citizens (NRC) and National Population Register (NPR).
The series of firing incidents took place in Delhi amidst the provocative speeches by Union Minister Amit Shah, Delhi Chief Minister Adityanath, and open incitement by Union Minister Anurag Thakur who exhorted BJP activists to "shoot traitors" by raising slogan "Desh ke gaddaron ko.. Goli maro salo ko".

"Two men on a scooty came, fired a couple of shots in the air at Jamia just now and ran away. No injuries. Eyewitnesses say it was red scooty with a numberplate that ended with 1532", Sania Ahmed wrote on Twitter tagging a video.
"We heard the gunshot. That is when we stepped out to see and the two men left on a scooty. We have taken down the vehicle number and called police," a student said.
News agency ANI said, people gathered in protest outside Jamia Millia Islamia University following the incident of firing at gate no.5 of the university.
"Scooty-borne unidentified people had fired bullets at the spot. SHO (Station house officer) is present at the spot. Investigation is on", ANI said.
