Bidar (Karnataka): In a move that has shocked the locals and school administration, Karnataka police Thursday arrested the headmistress of Shaheen school and mother of one of the student in a case related to anti-CAA play which the police claimed was "derogatory" to PM Modi.
The mother of the student who allegedly spoke "derogatory words" against PM Modi, Najmunissa (26), and the head teacher, Fareeda Begum (52), were arrested on Thursday, senior police officer T Sreedhara told NDTV.
According to the police officer, the mother has been charged with abetting the use of abusive language.
"She tutored her daughter to introduce fresh words that were not there in the original script," he told NDTV. The headmistress was taken into custody because the play was held with her knowledge and permission.
A case has been filed in Karnataka's Bidar against the management of Shaheen Group of Institutions for making its school children enact an anti-NRC skit, in which they used derogatory language against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and officials.
According to the official, the children said: "If anybody comes asking for documents, beat them with the slippers."
The complainant submitted the video footage of the drama which went viral, on whose basis, the police registered a case in Bidar's new town police station under the various sections of the Indian Penal Code.
Six children who acted in the play were below 10 years of age, and examined by police in the presence of the school teachers and their parents.
Shaheen Group of Institutions is reputed for its remarkable academic record, especially the success of its students in NEET and other competitive exams.
There have been huge demands from different circles to drop charges against the Shaheen school management and release those arrested.
