'Will maintain law and order if Madani arrested'

Wednesday, June 16, 2010 08:43:20 PM, PTI

Vested interests in IB implicating me: Madani: PDP chairman Abdul Nazar Madani who was included in the list of the accused in the Bangalore blast case, said that he was implicated in the case by certain vested interests in the IB. .... Read Full

Thiruvananthapuram: The Kerala government today said it would take necessary action to maintain law and order in case PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani was arrested by Karnataka police in connection with the 2008 Bangalore blast.

Chief Minister V S Achuthanandan was responding to a query on possible protests by PDP supporters in the event of arrest of Madani, who is now in his home town Anwarserri in Kolam district.

Two PDP supporters had tried to immolate themselves yesterday protesting the reported move of the Karnataka police to arrest Madani. However, their bid did not succeed following the intervention of party workers.

Achuthanandan said Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan had already made Kerala government's position clear on the matter.

Balakrishnan had stated that the government would extend support to Bangalore police if they sought Kerala police's help for the arrest of Madani.

"This is a case registered in Karnataka. If the police in that state seek the help of our police, we would extend it.

This is something normal," Balakrishnan had stated.

Madani was among the six persons named in an additional chargesheet filed by the Bangalore police last Friday in a court there, taking the total number of those charged in the Bangalore blast case to 32. Twelve of them are absconding.

He was questioned by Bangalore police earlier this month on the basis of information provided by suspected Lashkar operative T Nazir, the prime accused in the case.

Nine low-intensity crude bombs had exploded in different parts of the city on July 25, 2008, killing a woman and leaving 20 others injured.
