Making right to education a reality

Hyderabad: Andhra Pradesh School Education Minister D Manikya Varaprasada Rao today said the Right to Education Act (REA), with a view to provide a compulsory education to a male or female child in the age group of 6 to 14 years, was in force in the State from April 1, this year.

Addressing a press conference with State Minister for Primary Education and Sarva Siksha Abhiyan (SSA) Mohd Ahmadulla, Rao said the State Government had prepared draft rules on the Act based on the guidelines and inputs provided by the Union Government.

He said the State Government, in compliance with the guidlines provided by the Union Government, had incorporated some more rules in the draft based on the State's requirements and this might be called ''Andhra Pradesh Right to Children to Free and Compulsory Education Rules 2010''.

He said the State Government had constituted a three-member expert official committee to prepare the draft rules and the committee after consultations with the stakeholders and organisations connected to education had submitted report to the government which would be placed on the official website of the department for public opinion till June 30.
