SSC results in Maharashtra: Girls shine again, Mumbai top in 8 divisions
Malegaon: Despite being on ventilator for most of the time - in a phenomenal display of grit and determination - Anees Faruqui cracked the SSC exams and secured the first position in his school.
Anees Faruqui, a student of Scholars High School, Jogeshwari in Mumbai suburbs, is suffering from Muscular Dystrophy - an illness that refers to a group of hereditary muscle diseases that weaken the muscles that move the human body. He is on ventilator for about twenty hours. But despite all odds, he cleared the exams scoring 84%, reports Inquilab, an Urdu daily from Mumbai.
Despite of all the difficulties, Anees has not only cleared the exams but has also stood first in his school.
"I always try to be at top and my result speaks it all", Anees Faruqui said while praising Allah for the great success.
The exams for the Maharashtra Board of Secondary Schools were held in March 2010 and the results were declared yesterday. A total of 1203463 students out of 1439180 students appeared in 8 divisions have passed the exams.
Anees wrote the exams with the help of a 9th standard student. Though Anees admits, 'the writer' was very helpful to him, he said she did not write anything except what he said.
"She was of great help to me. But I had given a clear instruction not to write anything except what I dictated", Anees said.
Though the illness refrains him from movement, Anees was so quick in answering the questions that the writer had to read the answers for him so as to satisfy him of what she had written.
After cracking the SSC Exams, Anees now wants to become an expert Graphic Designer.
Since he cannot walk and could sit only for 3-4 hours in a day, Anees uses Internet to keep contacts with friends.
At this defining moment of his life, Anees says, he would love to meet Aamir Khan and Salman Khan - both of whom are his heroes.
Looking at Anees's illness, his father had suggested him to take a year's gap in 6th standard but he had declined. Interestingly, even before the exams, Anees had predicted that he would score more that 80% marks.
