With the launch of the community radio on July 20 after multiplexes and shopping malls, ‘soon to be a district’ Malegaon seems to be catching up with other metros.

Malegaon: Malegaon crossed yet another landmark July 20 at dot 07 in the morning when Dipti Deore greeted in the microphone with a sweet Radio Mast 90.4 Mhz war aaple swagat aahe and ran the touching signature tune even as thousands in the 30 km circle in Malegaon were hooked to their transistor sets to experience the launch of the town’s first community radio. With this, brainchild of Sampada Hirey, Radio Mast 90.4 FM, which is patronised by her father former minister Prashant Hirey, began its regular broadcast.

“Preparations were on since last more than a year for the launch of this first of its kind community radio in Malegaon. The radio is online today. Looking at the motives with which MG Vidya Mandir intends to carry it on, I am sure the radio will play a pivotal role in cultural as well as overall development of Malegaon - the most happening town in Nashik district. It will also provide the local artists an ideal platform to perform”, a beaming Prashant Hirey said in his opening message.

Unveiling further details of the Radio Mast 90.4 FM, Station Director Madhu Lingayat said, “We have scheduled various programs focussing not only the local cultural talent but also targeting the requirements in the agricultural, educational, health and industrial fields so as to assist those concerned with the latest developments.”

What make Radio Mast 90.4 FM unique are its multi lingual programs scheduled to satisfy the local audience divided virtually on communal and linguistic lines.

“Radio Mast 90.4 FM is perhaps the only community radio in the country which is broadcasting a wide range of programs in Marathi and Urdu languages simultaneously”, Prince Rehman, the incharge of the Urdu service, said to ummid.com.

On the expected lines, the radio launch is receiving overwhelming response mainly from the youngsters.
“Nowadays every electronic gadget is coming built-in with FM radios. But unlike other metros we couldn’t use them here. With the launch of the Radio Mast, we can now hope for having some leisure time”, said Preeti Sawant, a college student.

Equally excited are the local artists.

“Malegaon is known for its talent mainly in the field of art, culture, poetry and even film making. Radio Mast will provide the seasoned artists as well as newcomers with a platform to perform and improve”, said renowned drama artist and playwright Siraj Dular.

Pointing at the list of the scheduled programs, industrialist Alman Abdullah said, “The organisers have maintained a good combination of information and entertainment in their program chart. Besides Geet-Sangeet, new and old songs, Bazme Mushaira, sun ri sakhi, the programs like Chamakte Sitare, Global Shivar, Salah Qanoon ki, Tandrusti Hazar Nemat hai and others are really useful.”

Hundreds of people February 07, 2011 converged at Mushawerat chowk in Malegaon - one of the site that witnessed a series of blast on September 08, 2006, to listen to Former Minister Nehal Ahmed. Nehal Ahmed addressed the people from atop the Tipu Sultan tower because, according to him, the local police did not give him the permission to hold the rally to press the government to release the Muslim youths arrested in the case.
