Malegaon: In more than an hour fiery speech filled with emotions and satire, senior Majlis-e-Ittehadul Muslimeen (MIM) leader and Telangana legislator Akbaruddin Owaisi on Friday urged the people of Malegaon to elect the party candidate if they want to live with dignity and pride.
“I am not here to ask for your votes to grab power. I am not here to seek your votes to win the election. I am seeking your votes to restore your dignity, and so that you live with pride”, he said amid loud applause in front of more than one lakh people who gathered to listen to his maiden speech in Malegaon.
“Every community in India has its own party. If Yadavs, Bahujan Samaj and Marathas can have their parties in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar and Maharashtra, why not we Muslims?” he asked.
“Far from having a party, we could not even send a single Muslim MP from Maharashtra which has a population of more than 1.5 crore people”, he said.
He also blamed the ruling Congress-NCP alliance for the sorry state of the Muslims in Maharashtra.
“The govt. has sanctioned a meagre 500 crore rupees for Minority Development Department and has utilized just 200. It talks about equal opportunity, but the fact is that Muslim per cent in Maharashtra police is just 03% and in govt. jobs it is just 04%. On the other hand, their numbers in jails is over 40%. Are these the reasons why they are seeking your votes?” he asked.
Rejecting the accusations that MIM candidates will divide the secular votes, Akbaruddin Owaisi said, “The country is going through the worst phase in its history. It is reeling under clutches of communal and Hindutva forces and RSS, and the so called secular parties doing nothing to change the situation. But, whenever Akbar Owaisi decides to contest election he is blamed of dividing secular votes. He is even termed communal”, he said.
Listing the works of development, and the colleges and institutions being run under him, Owaisi said if people of Malegaon want development in the city, they should give the MIM candidates a chance. He also promised to give Malegaon a hospital and a school.
“We have already opened a hospital in Nanded. I promise to open a hospital on the similar pattern and a school in Malegaon, irrespective of winning or losing the election”, he said.
He also warned the people of the danger game the Modi government is playing.
“They claimed to have done many things in first 100 days. But, I say if anything is done in these 100 days, it is to abuse and threaten the Muslims. They have talked about ‘Love Jihad’ and ‘Hindu Rashtra’. They have demolished Babri Masjid. They now want to do the same to the mosques in Kashi and Mathura”, he warned.
“I urge you to build 100,000 mosques and name each one as Babri Masjid. This will be real answer to the people who had demolished the Babri Masjid, and the people who threaten to change the constitution”, he said.
Touching a patriotic note, Akbaruddin Owaisi said India was home to Muslims and will remain so.
“There are people who threaten us and ask us to leave the country. They should know that India was, is and will remain our country forever”, he said.
“There are people who question our loyalty. They should know that we are more loyal to the country than them. If time demands, we will be on the front for the safety and stability of this country”, he said.
He also advised the people especially the youths not to get influenced by emotions.
“Emotions are ok. But to reach a target you need caution and strategy. Work them out if you want to defeat your enemies”, he said.
Earlier, Akbaruddin Owaisi arrived in Malegaon to hero’s welcome. Huge crowd followed the MIM leader wherever he went. When he reached the Bada Qanristan mosque at around 01:45 p.m. to offer Friday prayers, the crowd was so thick that he could not board off his car, and had to proceed to other mosque for prayers.
Party ticket seekers from Jalgaon, Dhule, Nanudrbar and other neighbouring cities also lined up to meet Owaisi at the farm house of Abdul Malik Yunus Isa.The MIM is planning to field candidates on 60 seats in the state. Saturday is the last day for filing nomination papers for the elction to be held on October 15, 2014.
