Bangalore: The State Human Rights Commission has directed the state
government to reply within three weeks regarding a plea to handover
the murder case probe of advocate Naushad Khasimji, to CBI. Naushad
was murdered on April 9, 2009. He was representing many cases
including the encounters of Sudhir, Mulky Rafique along with the
case of Padmapriya, the wife of BJP MLA Raghupati Bhat in which one
Atul Rao was accused for her death.
He had recently taken up the case of Rashid Malbari. The court had
accepted his plea to send Rashid Malbari from Police custody to
Judicial custody and the same day evening he was killed by
unidentified assailants near his apartment on Attavar, Mangalore.
Following this, there was a demand for a CBI probe alleging that it
was a police encounter as the lawyer was active in filing public
interest litigations against the police.
Many organisations including Popular Front of India and the
Majlis-e-Islah-o-Tanzeem, an NGO, which represents majority of the
Muslims in Bhatkal, held a rally and submitted a memorandum to State
Human Rights commission demanding a CBI probe.
Pervez Khasimji, brother of Naushad, and the President of Bhatkal
TMC told reporters that the Human Rights Commission had given notice
to the state government a fortnight back. He said that he has full
proof that Mangalore police was involved in the murder of his
brother Naushad Kashimji and he will hand over the proof only to
CBI. He does not trust either the state police or the BJP government
who did not even condemn the murder. He said that if the state Govt
does not handover the case to CBI then he will file case in the
Supreme Court of India and ask for the justice.
Meanwhile, the suo moto PIL demanding a probe into the death will
come up for hearing in the state high court next week.
