Panaji: Popular tourist hub Goa is all set to host the 40th International Film Festival of India from Monday.

Interacting with the media after reviewing the preparations of the fest state Chief Minister Digambar Kamat said: "Goa is all set to host the 40th International Film Festival of India. We have done all the preparations and on 23rd of this month, our very own Waheeda Rehman would inaugurate the festival."

"A cultural show has been organized as a part of the inaugural programme and besides that a Chinese film 'Wit' would be screened," he added.

Kamat also mentioned that the prime objective of the festival would be to project Goa as an ideal locale for movie producers of not only India but also for filmmakers from around the world.

The Indian Section at IFFI 2009 will be held under nine different segments and will screen 77 films.

In all, the IFFI 2009 would present a bouquet of 44 films, 26 feature films and 18 non-feature films.

The 'curtains-down' will be after the screening of the Spanish film 'Broken Embraces'.

The closing ceremony announcing the winners would be held on November 30 marked by a life-style show on the theme 'Fashion in Indian Cinema'.

Nearly 6000 delegates are likely to participate in IFFI 2009.

As the preparations for the grand inauguration of the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) is underway local filmmakers in Malegaon are going gaga over the inclusion of their films in the festival.

This is for the first time Malegaon filmmakers are getting an international platform for the screening of their films, says Shaikh Nasir, the Director-Producer of many film-remakes in Malegaon.

Two Mollywood films included for the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) are 'Yeh Hai Malegaon Ka Superman' and 'Gabbarbhai MBBS', Nasir says.

The International Film Festival of India (IFFI) would be inaugurated on November 23 by yesteryears Bollywood beauty Waheeda Rehman in presence of Information and Broadcasting Minister Ambika Soni. Actress Asin would be the special guest for lighting the ceremonial lamp whereas internationally renowned actor Kabir Bedi and well known artiste Divya Dutta would be compering the inaugural function, inform the organisers, inform the organisers.

Organisers say, in addition to the screening of 26 feature films and 18 non-feature films as part of Indian Panorama, 55 films from 45 countries have been included to showcase the ‘Cinema of World’ besides a special section on ant-war films. Under the Golden Jubilee Retro section, the sterling contributions of film persontalities, who have completed 50 years in the industry, namely Asha Parekh, Sharmila Tagore and Saumitra Chatterjeewould be saluted.

Yeh Hai Malegaon Ka Superman – one of the two films to be screened during the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) has already earned praise from prominent filmmakers in India and abroad. The film has been part of the film festivals recently held in United States, Pakistan and China. Faiza Khan – Director of the film has also been awarded for the remarkable work, says Shaikh Nasir.

In October this year during the 11th Osian’s Cinefan – the film festival organized in New Delhi every year in association with the state Government - Yeh Hai Malegaon Ka Superman was screened four times – a privilege shared only by few films. Besides the two screenings for the directors, producers and industry giants, the film was specially screened for 300 students from 10 schools.

While the film was acclaimed by the people like actor Rishi Kapoor, and Directors Anurag Kashyab and Zoya Akhtar, the school teachers found the film as a source of inspiration and motivation for their students.

"Using limited available resources, unfriendly locations and minimal budget, the way this film has been produced is a lesson for our students. Through this film we want to say to our students that if they want to do something then they should not wait. They should start using whatever resources are available with them."
