Mumbai:
Wednesday August 26, 2009 would always remain as a historic day for
the people in Mumbra, the Muslim dominated town in Thane district
near the Indian industrial capital Mumbai, when it saw the
inauguration of first Urdu medium Junior College for girls in the
area. The opening of the college in the vicinity has delighted the
natives as earlier they had to travel to the colleges located at
faraway places.
The girls-only Urdu medium Junior
College that was inaugurated by local MLC Jitendra Awad, Corporators
Mahindra Komorlekar and Milind Patil Wednesday is located at Amrut
Nagar in the premises of Mumbra Public School.
“Initially we are starting with XIth
Arts and Commerce two divisions with the strength of 80 students
each for which we have been granted the permission from the
government on unaided basis”, said Jamiluddin Khan – Gen. Secretary
of Badar Education Trust.
The Trust which has established the
Junior College in Mumbra is successfully running Mumbra Public
School since last more than a decade. The school that has about one
thousand students on its roll is running both in Urdu as well as
English mediums.
“Although we will face difficulties
because of the absence of any grant from the government, the
establishment of the junior college is important as it will provide
relief to hundreds of girl students who otherwise face drop-outs
after SSC”, said Jamiluddin Khan.
Mumbra-Kausa located some 40
kilometers to Mumbai are predominated mostly by the Muslims who
migrated to the area mostly from Central and South Mumbai few
decades ago. Though settled at this faraway place with their
families, majority of them still travel to Mumbai everyday to earn
their livelihood.
Local resident Shamim Ahmed, father of
two girls is excited on the expected lines. “My elder daughter has
cleared SSC exams this year. The opening of the junior college in my
own area has encouraged me to continue with her education. Otherwise
sending my daughter to faraway places like Kalyan and Bandra was
neither feasible nor affordable for me”, he said.
