Missing you Hemant Karkare: People of Malegaon say on blast anniversary

Nashik: The designated court has directed the Nashik Road Central jail authorities to shift Sadhvi Pragya Singh Thakur, the prime accused in the 2008 Malegaon bomb blast case, to be shifted to the Ayurveda Seva Sangh hospital here for medical treatment.

The special court judge S T Naik gave this order yesterday while accepting the Sadhvi's plea. However, the court rejected a petition moved by the Jail authorities seeking Sadhvi's transfer to another jail in the state. In his order, Naik observed that the accused be immediately shifted to Ayurveda Seva Sangh hospital and provided adequate security during the course of her medical treatment.

On March 15, the Sadhvi, who was undergoing medical treatment at Ayurveda Seva Sangh hospital, was transferred to the Central Jail for security reasons. Consequently, she had to stay behind bars without treatment. Then, she undertook hunger strike agitation in the prison causing her health to deteriorate gradually.

Considering her deteriorating health, the jail authorities on March 27 admitted the Sadhvi to civil hospital here for medical treatment. The Sadhvi then moved an application through her lawyer before the court alleging abuses and mental torture by the Jail authorities. Citing lack of proper treatment, she demanded treatment at the Ayurveda hospital.

On March 29, the court formed a three-member commission to record the Sadhvi's statement in the civil hospital. It submitted the report before the court next day. The hearing on it was earlier scheduled for April three, but was held yesterday.

Meanwhile, the court has reserved its judgement on the allegation made by the Sadhvi against the Jail administration.
