Congress to repeat its performance in assembly polls: Chavan

Thane: Congress hopes to perform the same way in the coming assembly polls as it did in the last Lok Sabha elections in Maharashtra, state Chief Minister Ashok Chavan said today. ''I hope so,'' he said when asked about whether the Congress will perform the same way in the coming assembly polls as it did in the Lok Sabha elections. Earlier participating in a function to felicitate artists and students, the chief minister said he was happy to see both the Congress and NCP leaders and activists together in activities, both social and political.

''It is not only during elections the Congress and NCP activists come together but even for social and cultural activities we come together and I am extremely happy to see both party activists together at this function,'' he said.

He said Thane has unique importance and receives all the attention of the state and Central governments.

''I am happy to see that when it comes to civic work, all party corporators come together for the civic cause,'' he said.

He said out of the total funds made available under the JNUM the state received maximum funds and in the state and Thane received the major share.

There will be no dearth of funds for the city and district of Thane, Mr Chavan said, adding, drinking water and other essential projects will receive due attention.
