Malegaon: Claiming that they had been falsely implicated in the blast case that rocked Malegaon in 2006, one of the Malegaon blast accused detained in Ratnagiri Jail is on hunger strike since last more than ten days. Following his deteriorating health condition jail authorities have shifted him to Ratnagiri Civil Hospital.
According to Dr. Nafeesa, wife of Dr. Salman Farsi who was detained in connection with the September 2006 blast that rocked the Muslim dominated town Malegaon is on indefinite hunger strike since March 18. Dr. Salman along with few other accused had recently been shifted from Arthur Road Jail to Ratnagiri. As his condition deteriorated the Jail Authorities shifted him from the prison cell to Ratnagiri Civil Hospital where his condition is said to be critical. “He has lost 12-15 kgs due to the hunger strike and his condition is fast deteriorating”, his wife Dr. Nafeesa who visited her ailing husband in the hospital few days back said to ummid.com from her Mumbai residence.
Dr. Nilegaonkar, the RMO at Ratnagiri Civil Hospital said, Dr. Salman is just on water since March 18 and his condition is not normal. “His health is below general condition”, he said to ummid.com from Ratnagiri Civil Hospital.
A series of blast outside and near the Qabristan Mosque had rocked Malegaon minutes after the Friday prayers on September 8, 2006. Thirty-two people had been killed and more than three hundred were injured in what the investigating agencies had termed as the terrorist attack carried by SIMI members. Ever since the blasts the Malegaonians were demanding a thorough investigation into the tragic incident, as they believed it could not be a handiwork of any Muslim, but Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) arrested few SIMI members and chargesheeted them as the culprits. Following the persistent demands however the State Government finally ordered a CBI probe. CBI is yet to finish with its investigations.
Meanwhile another blast rocked Malegaon in 2008 and Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) led by its slain Chief Hemant Karkare exposed the hitherto hidden face of the Hindu Terrorists and arrested Sadhvi Pragya Singh, Colonel Prohit and other terrorists belonging to Abhinav Bharat and other Hindu extremist organizations.
Following the exposure the activists and the relatives of the accused with renewed vigor made the demands for the release of the September 2006 blast accused. “The chargesheet against Sadhvi Pragya Singh, Colonel Prohit and other accused in September 2008 Malegaon blast filed by Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) hints at their involvement in September 2006 blast as well. Hence we demand from the Government to implicate them in 2006 blast also and release those who were earlier arrested by the AT”, says Advocate Mujib Momin.
On behalf of the relatives Advocate Mujib has written a letter to the Prime Minister, Home Minister and the Minister for Minority Affairs on March 24 requesting immediate action on their demands. At the same time Dr. Salman went on hunger strike on March 18 demanding for the same and now shifted from jail to Ratnagiri Civil Hospital is refusing to take any food. |
