Police finds pattern behind Hyderabad cops attacks

Friday, June 18, 2010 08:27:49 AM, PTI

Policeman shot dead in Hyderabad, high alert in city: A policeman was killed and two others were injured when two people on a motorcycle opened fire on a police picket in the old city of Hyderabad Friday. A high alert has been sounded across the city .... Read Full

Hyderabad: City Police today said that a particular organisation or a person was responsible for the series of attacks on its personnel in which two policemen were killed and as many injured since December 2008.

"Same weapon was used in the attacks including the latest Shah-Ali Banda incident and two previous firing incidents on policemen. The forensic examination report has said that the same weapon was used in all the three attacks which links that a particular agency or a person is behind the attacks," Hyderabad Police Commissioner A K Khan told reporters here.

Now the suspicion has further got strengthened that in all the three shootout cases suspected terrorist Viqar Ahmed has a role, the top cop said adding "even now I am not telling 100 per cent that he (Viqar Ahmed) is behind attacks on policemen, but he or some agency connected with him has done it."

An alleged ISI activist Viqaruddin alias Viqar Ahmed alias Viqar Ali Khan, who opened fire on the sleuths of Counter-Intelligence Cell at IS Sadan in December 2008 (injuring a head constable), was also allegedly involved in the shootout at Falaknuma on May 18 last year (where a home guard died and a police constable sustained injuries), the second anniversary of Mecca Masjid bomb blasts, Khan said.

Viqar, against whom the Special Investigation Team (SIT) of the City Police have already registered a case, once again emerged the prime suspect for carrying out the attack at Shah-Ali Banda killing constable U Ramesh, on May 14 (last month), four days ahead of the third anniversary of Mecca Masjid blast here, Khan said.

"After the FSL analysis we are moving towards identifying the main accused responsible for the Shah-Ali Banda incident and are making progress week by week. We are moving on the right track," Khan added.
