Malegaon:
Intensifying
their demands for justice, as the leaders have termed their agitation,
the Muslim Leaders sat for a day long dharna in front of the
Sub Divisional Officer (SDO) office today in Malegaon.
In a letter handed
over to SDO
Ajay More, the Muslim Leaders, working under the banner of Kul
Jamaati Tanzeem since
2006 blast, urged the Governments at the
Center and State to take immediate action on
their demands or face a mass movement.
"For last more
than two and half years, we are pleading in front of the government,
both at the centre and at the state, to look into our demands with
the respect and attention they deserve, as the future of many innocents and their families are at stake",
Sufi Ghulam Rasool Qadri asserted. "Today's Dharna is an
expression of anger and condemnation over the Governments' apathy
towards our demands."
Malegaon, the predominantly Muslim
textile town in North Maharashtra went through two terrorist
attacks, one in
2006 and the other in
2008. Both the incidents, that
preceded the Muslim festivals resulted in the casualties of the
local Muslims. While the investigating agencies put the blame of the
2006 blast on the Muslim youths belonging to SIMI, the ATS arrested
Sadhavi Pragya Singh Thkaur, Col. Prohit and other Hindu Terrorists
belonging to right wing Hindu extremist groups for masterminding the
2008 blast.
Demanding that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) speedily completes
its investigations into 2006 Malegaon blast and the Muslim youths in
jail since more than two and half years should be released, local
Muslim leaders of Kul Jamaati Tanzim, an umbrella organisation
formed after the 2006 blast having leaders from all the religious
sects, decided to sit on a day-long dharna outside the SDO office in Malegaon today on Thursday.
In reply to a query the leaders said
they would be meeting State Chief Minister Ashok Chavan in his
Mumbai office on Monday. "We would wait for what comes out of the
Monday's meeting with the Chief Minister. If he refuses to meet us
or fail to give any time-bound assurance, we would straight away go
to Azad Maidan from his office and sit for a dharna again to press
for our demands", said Maulana Abdul Hamid Azhari who led today's
agitation in Malegaon. "From Azad Maidan the program for the mass
movement to bring the government to its knees would be declared", he
added.
Along with the speedy investigations
of the blast and release of the Muslim youths, the leaders are also
demanding adequate security arrangements for Abrar Ahmad,
the approver-turned-hostile, whose life, the leaders say, are in
danger ever since he has filed an affidavit accusing few police
officials of hatching a conspiracy to nab the Muslim youths.
