Venkiaha Naidu on beef ban

Mumbai:
Vice President Venkaiah Naidu on Monday said eating beef is not a problem, celebrating it or organising festivals in its name is a reason for concern.

"If you want to eat beef, then eat. Why Festival?" Naidu said, while addressing a gathering at Platinum Jubilee Celebrations of R.A. Poddar College of Commerce, according to ANI.

"Similarly, a 'Kiss Festival', if you wish to kiss, why do you need a festival or anyone's permission for it," he added.

In the past too, Naidu had addressed the beef issue, and while stressing on how food is an individual's choice, he said that he is a strict non-vegetarian and nobody told him to what to eat or what not.

Interestingly, Prime Minister Modi himself is seen saying in an old video that he cannot impose a ban on beef export as "some of his freinds are in the same business".

Despite all the assertions from the top level, the BJP governments in various states where Muslims are in numbers have imposed a ban on beef eating.

In contrast to this, the BJP talks in favour of beef eating and against its ban in state like Goa, Kerala and North East.

The BJP's double standard on beef has also resulted in several cases of beating, ane even lynching, of Dalits and Muslims in many parts of the country.
